Hey everyone. Last Wednesday I took a couple shots of .380 without ear protection. In the 6 months prior, I took around 9 shots of .40 S&W unprotected also. I felt a stuffiness in my ear Wednesday after getting home, and then I believe Friday I noticed symptoms of Tinnitus, so say it’s been about a week. I still am noticing it, but it’s either going away, or I’m getting used to it.

Music is my life, all around. I’m really into Rap/Hip Hop because of the beats. I planned on making a career out of being a DJ, and maybe moving up in the future. I honestly think that if this is permanent I’m going to commit suicide. The reason is, hearing loss is cumulative. So, sounds that wouldn’t have hurt my hearing in the past, now will because I think these shots accelerated my hearing loss. I’m not sure what to do.

I have an appointment with an Audiologist/ENT next week, but I can pretty much tell you that by reading online I’ve found out all I need to know about Tinnitus. I DON’T want this, and although I can, I’m NOT going to live with this. Please can somebody, anybody please try to atleast calm me down? I do not want this forever. I want to go back to normal. I also want to hurt myself for being so stupid and shooting without protection. I’ve always used protection in the past, but I didn’t think a few shots would be this bad to my ears. I’m going CRAZY. Please help guys. Thank you.

Hey everyone. I’m a 20 year old male. About 6 months ago, I took around 12 shots from a handgun without hearing protection over the course of 2 months (one or 2 shots every 2 weeks). It was a .40S&W for what it’s worth. I did have my hood up though. After the last time, I noticed a ‘fullness’ in my ears & I knew what I was doing was very stupid. I’ve always shot with ear protection, but being that it was only one or two shots every so often I didn’t think it would be that bad. My ears never rang after shooting any of the times, surprisingly. Anyway, I started to get worried & read up on shooting without protection/hearing loss. It seems ever since then, I have heard (or have been imagining) a ringing in my ears, also known as Tinnitus. It’s driving me absolutely mad wondering if I have it or not. I’ve listened to sounds of Tinnitus & mine does not sound like that. I do have OCD which makes me wonder if my brain is making this ringing tone to sort of mess with me. If I don’t concentrate on it, I don’t hear it. Once I say to myself, "wait, where’s the ringing at?" I hear the VERY faint "eeeeeeeeeeee" almost like a nail scratching glass if that makes sense. I need to know if I have it or not, because the uncertainty is driving me mad. I can also hear it when I lay my head against a pillow. Also, opening my jaw wide & flexing it makes a loud ring. What’s up with me guys? From what I’ve read, people with Tinnitus KNOW it is Tinnitus, there doesn’t seem to be uncertainty, it’s always clear that they have it. Thank yous, and God Bless.

A year ago I shot a rifle without ear protection. Dumbest thing ever.

I think it messed my ear up. I went to an ENT months afterwards to see if my ears were ok. Went through all the tests and everything came back normal. I noticed they didn’t test for higher frequencies though.

Anyways, There has been this weird high pitched sound in my right ear ever since. I know it’s tinnitus.

I was hoping it’d go away. After a year though it’s still there. It doesn’t seem as loud though as it did say 8 months ago.

will it eventually fade away?

Also, I read a study that everyone hears something in a quiet sound proof room.?

Is that true? It’s like that sound you hear in a sea shell?

Can anything ever be completely silent? I mean, even the planets make sounds that we can hear from space with the right equipment
