Strange ear ringing, what could be causing it?
For the past several years I have had a constant, low-level ringing in both of my ears (tinnitus). It’s a tinny sort of sound and is fairly quiet so it does not bother me much. My doctor said that my ears look normal, and it is probably just allergies and/or wax build-up causing the ringing.
My question is about a more recent change to the sounds in my ears. Over the past few months I have had many incidences (usually a few times a week) where suddenly one ear will go completely silent, as if someone suddenly hit a "mute" button on the ear. Then a low tune will sound in the ear, almost like the sound of someone hitting a tuning fork right inside my ear. It progressively gets louder, then quieter again, and then slowly the sound returns to that ear. It never happens in both ears at once, and is predominately in the right ear although it does occasionally happen in the left.
What could be causing this strange temporary hearing loss and tuning sound in my ears? Is there anything I can do about it? I am a young adult so it is not hearing loss due to age. Any and all thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

This happens to me too my Dr. didnt explain exactly what caused it but he said its normal for this to happen from time to time. So dont worrie its normal.
I too have this actually for many, many years.
Do you have a tooth that’s missing? If so it cause can cause
the ringing. Also there’s a disease called meniere’s disease that can cause these symptoms.
A general practioner doctor can probably help.
Myself,I’ve had hearing test done.My hearing is great and I’m 57.
I know sometimes when it has occured with me it may cause me to have anxiety.Remain calm, you’ll be OK,get checked,OK?
wish you the best
