“You can help reduce the symptoms of your tinnitus through foot reflexology it’s really quite simple. Just follow the steps below for an effective tinnitus home remedy.
1. Sit in a comfortable chair or on a sofa — or floor.
2. Cross one leg over the other, resting your foot on the opposite knee.
3. Find the spot directly below your last two toes — the smallest two, farthest from your huge toe. This spot is said to relieve the ringing in the ears.
4. Massage this for about five minutes the first day. Perform this massage for no longer than five minutes and only perform once on the first day.
5. On the second day you want to massage this area no less than five minutes (you might want to increase the timeframe slightly) and perform this action twice a day.
6. Continue increasing the time slowly with every day you perform this. Ensure that you massage this area two times within the day.”

Tinnitus can arise in any of the four sections of the hearing system: the outer ear, the middle ear, the inner ear, and the brain. Some tinnitus or \"head noise\" is normal. A number of techniques and treatments may be of help, depending on the cause.
* Some of the most common include a sound of crickets or roaring, buzzing, hissing, whistling, and high-pitched ringing.
* Other types of tinnitus include a clicking or pulsatile tinnitus (the noise accompanies your heartbeat).
* The most common type of tinnitus is known as subjective tinnitus, meaning that you hear a sound but it cannot be heard by others.
* A much more uncommon sort is called objective tinnitus, meaning your doctor may sometimes actually hear a sound when he or she is carefully listening for it.
One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment, and consequently chronic tinnitus.
Medical practitioners today has a reason in believing that Tinnitus can be caused, when the ear is exposed to loud noise.
In the Navy I worked around aircraft and flew six years on a flight crew, this was long ago and we didn’t use ear/hearing protection. I have had loud noise for 10-15 years. A couple of years ago I started to “hear” noise on top of noise ie. a high pitched ring with clocks ticking on top of that (it wakes me up). I read somewhere that gabapentin (Neurotin) would help and it does take care of the top level of noise ie. the clock ticking sound. I take 300mg twice a day, check with your doctor.
Unfortunately, there is currently no drug that can make tinnitus go away. Even surgery has a mixed success rate at curing tinnitus, since tinnitus is usually a symptom of something else that needs healing in the body.
About 4 months ago, I started getting extreme noise/ringing in my ears. I went to the doctor and he said that I was clenching my jaw at night because of stress which may be a factor in the tinnitus. I also thought I would go crazy. I started wearing a mouth guard to ease the clenching which has helped my jaws feel better, but didn’t do a thing for the tinnitus. Time has helped me to get used to it. I am also in the throes of menopause and wonder if hormones may have something to do with it. I am going to try the multi vitamin that someone else suggested. Good luck to all of us, and if anyone finds a “cure”, please share it with us!
Tinnitus does not have a cure yet, but treatments that help many people cope better with the condition are available. Most doctors will offer a combination of the treatments below, depending on the severity of your tinnitus and the areas of your life it affects the most.
Well, i have tinnitus. It’s a high pitch buzzing/ringing/computer-like buzzing noise. It’s not loud and i can tune out of it if i focus on my breathing for awhile. However, i will always end up picking it up. Like my brain can’t stop myself from searching for that noise. I’ve heard that tinnitus is incurable. I’m scared because i will sometimes feel very frustrated because i can’t shut the noise out. If i cover my ears, it just gets louder.
Counseling helps you learn how to live with your tinnitus. Most counseling programs have an educational component to help you understand what goes on in the brain to cause tinnitus. Some counseling programs also will help you change the way you think about and react to your tinnitus.
Cochlear implants are sometimes used in people who have tinnitus along with severe hearing loss. A cochlear implant bypasses the damaged portion of the inner ear and sends electrical signals that directly stimulate the auditory nerve.
One study showed melatonin may help tinnitus sufferers, particularly those with disturbed sleep due to the tinnitus. However, this is not yet been verified in controlled studies.
Utilize masking noise. Tinnitus is usually more bothersome when the surroundings are quiet, especially when you are in bed. A competing sound such as a ticking clock, a radio, a fan or white noise machine may help mask tinnitus. Small hearing aid like devices which generate a competitive sound may help reduce the awareness of the tinnitus.
When tinnitus was keeping me awake, my first good night sleep in a long time came on a business trip… I left a trickle of water running into a cup that overflowed in the sink. That little random sound actually helped distract me from the ringing so I could get to sleep!
Generally, most patients will not need any medical treatment for their tinnitus. Patients who have hearing loss and tinnitus often find that their tinnitus is less bothersome or even gone completely when they wear hearing aids. The hearing aids provide an additional sound input that often in effect works to mask the tinnitus. Therefore, the hearing aids effectively can serve two functions- to help the patient hear well and to help relieve the patient of his/her tinnituts.
Disorders in the inner ear, such as sensorineural hearing loss due to noise exposure, aging, inner ear infection or Meniere’s disease often accompanied by hearing loss and dizziness.
Tinnitus usually isn’t a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment.
Ok I am 14 years old, and today I have been diagnosed with tinnitus. I do listen to music loud and play guitar loud, but that will have t o change … OK on with the story, this has been going on since Saturday. My doctor has given me an anti-inflammatory medicine. And he said if that doesn’t work he would refer me to a specialist. Is there a chance my tinnitus can go away, because on this one medical site I read that the ringing can decrease volume wise, or be elimentated. Is it possible my tinnitus can “go away” …?
A special category is tinnitus that sounds like one’s heartbeat or pulse, also known as pulsatile tinnitus. At times, the presence of pulsatile tinnitus may signal the presence of a vascular tumor in the general vicinity of the middle and inner ear.
Most cases of tinnitus should be evaluated by an ear, nose, and throat physician before home treatment begins to be sure that the tinnitus is not caused by another treatable problem.
Tinnitus is common; about one in five people between 55 and 65 years old report symptoms on a general health questionnaire, and 11.8% on more detailed tinnitus-specific questionnaires.
Tinnitus can arise in any of the following areas: the outer ear, the middle ear, the inner ear, or by abnormalities in the brain. Some tinnitus or head noise is normal.
The Yoga Pranayam (breathing exercises) will help with tinnitus problem and it wil disappear over the long term.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.
One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear.
I made the mistake of going out target shooting without earplugs a few months back. I was obviously too close to my friend who was shooting a high-powered rifle. After the shot, I noticed my ears ringing as badly as I could ever remember.
The ringing lasted for more than a month, gradually subsiding in weeks four-through-six.
I’m not sure if this constitutes Tinnitus, but I thought I’d share and let you be the judge. Thanks for the post.
I am more on Common Tinnitus. Oftentimes I hear whistling inside my ears. And, it’s so irritating to hear the noise. At least it would not cause any threat.

Protect your hearing at work. Your work place should follow Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Wear ear plugs or earmuffs and follow hearing conservation guidelines set by your employer.

Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients, it takes the form of a high-pitched whining, electric, buzzing, hissing, screaming, humming, tinging or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, \"crickets\" or \"tree frogs\" or \"locusts (cicadas)\", tunes, songs, beeping, or even a pure steady tone like that heard during a hearing test.
Subjective tinnitus is also a side effect of some medications, such as aspirin, and may also result from an abnormally low level of serotonin activity. It is also a classical side effect of quinidine, a Class IA anti-arrhythmic. Over 260 medications have been reported to cause tinnitus as a side effect. In many cases, however, no underlying physical cause can be identified.
I was unaware of this disorder till I read it here. Some people mentioned that prevention is better than cure. I would like to know what steps we can take to prevent Tinnitus. Are there any suggested changes to be made in the diet? If one feels the symptoms of Tinnitus then which specialist should one seek for advice, ENT or Neuro physician, or anybody else?
Man, I didn’t know my man Shatner suffered from tinnitus! That guy cracks me up. Although I have ringing sometimes, don’t think my symptoms fit the bill for tinnitus, luckily. What an awful disorder!
First of all, sympathy for Mr. Shatner. If an annoying ringing in the ears fails to go away within a short period of time, sometimes medication can help to cure the problem. However, this is not always the case and tinnitus, as the condition of perceiving sound within the ear in the absence of corresponding external sound is known, is described as chronic if it persists for longer than three months.
Here’s a few tips:
DO NOT panic. Tinnitus is usually not a sign of a serious, ongoing medical condition.
CHECK things out. The sounds you hear may actually be normal sounds created by the human body at work.
SEE an audiologist or ear, nose and throat specialist (ENT) interested and experienced in tinnitus treatment.
REVIEW your current medications (prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins and other supplements) with your medical professional to find possible causes of your tinnitus.
BE WARY of a hopeless diagnosis or physician advice like, “There’s nothing you can do about your tinnitus. Go home and live with it.”
BE a detective. Keep track of what triggers your tinnitus.
KEEP UP TO DATE about tinnitus. More and more research by the best and the brightest is bringing us closer to successful treatments and cures for tinnitus.
See a chiropractor – ask about accupunture and magnet therapy. this has been the only treatment that has helped me.
Man! Shatner has Tinnitus? Who knew? My friend just told me his aunt has this so I had to know what it was.. That’s awful!

My grandmother suffered from this. I think it’s kind of like bad back: once you got it, you got it, and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about it.
Watching my grandmother suffer, anyone going through this has my deepest sympathies.
I’ve known people who have tinnitus so this is a very informative site – thank you so much!

I wish that the people who listen to loud music on their Ipods knew what they were risking and how they might suffer for it.
I have had tinnitus in both ears since I was a kid. Not sure if it was caused by an ear infection, loud noise, or TMJ but it has always been very bad.
Tinnitus is an insidious condition that haunts its victims in a number of torturous ways. Always hearing some type of sound or noise in your head and/or ears is a curse.
As a reflexologist, I have seen clients who have begged me to quiet the incessant ringing in their ears.
While reflexology can address virtually any condition for which the human body may require healing, there is never a guarantee of curing or complete healing.
This being said, reflexology has provided relief for many of my clients and they swear there is a decrease in the symptoms after a reflexology session. Unfortunately, when they return to there “regular” lives, the sound eventually returns.
The only thing I can suggest for those with Tinnitus is to say “try it.”
Oh, and ANYONE can give you reflexology – it doesn’t have to be a reflexologist. Ask a loved one: wife, husband, partner, etc.
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Thanks for a great blog!
