I’ve had this as problem for so long and last night i was laying in bed and it got to the point were it hurt me . It only happens when it’s completely silent or when faint noise is going on around me. it’s kinda like a buzzing or sometimes it sounds like a annoying beeping ringing kinda thing.

Ok, so we’ve had our Yorkie for two and a half years now, we take very good care of her and all that however sometimes she barks quite a bit and quite loudly. Now about 8 months ago I developed tinnitus, and it’s now pretty much non-stop. On top of that an audiologist I saw recently said I was either partially deaf or my hearing was below par (not sure of his exact words) I always thought my hearing was fine, lol.

I’ve noticed recently that when she barks it affeects my tinnitus, hearing, ear drums more than normal, and I’m thinking maybe just maybe that is the cause of my tinnitus and possibly even my supposed reduced hearing? In such a scenario should you consider having an operation done to I guess silence your dog, removal of voice box or whatever they do – view it as a neutering for the throat. Logical answers rather than emotional please. Thanks.
Seems like it’s called "devocalisation" or a "vocal cordectomy" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devocalization Seems like it’s banned in some US States and in the UK – we’re in Ireland so not sure of the rules here on it. Would absolutely hate to do it to her but if it comes down to my hearing suffering even more, possibly getting progressively worse or devocalising our doggie then I guess I’d opt for the latter. Guess I’d have to really. I think they can still bark but at a very low pitch or something (only skimmed the wiki page on it)
We play with her, take her out daily for a walk, she has an enclosed back garden to play in etc, fed well, watered well, kept clean and all round happy. Given treats, given toys etc. Verbally warned when she does bark with a "no, no, no" or "stop, stop" etc. We think it is in a dogs nature to bark, as it’s in ours to talk or laugh or cry or whatever. Tried an ultrasonic collar – too big and uncomfortable on her, need to check out a smaller one. Devocalisation isn’t on the agenda right now, we’ll try other measures and if still no results we’ll then consider it. It certainly isn’t and never should be a first option. It seems to ASPCA is in favour of devocalisation as a last resort. Makes sense not to ban it because in certain circumstances an owner may if left with no choice simply euthanise a dog. We wouldn’t but some may.
We have attempted to train her. Subjective tinnitus can be caused by numerous factors, loud noise is one. The only loud noise I have been around on a regular basis is our Yorkie when she barks. Whether it caused it or not doesn’t really matter now, it’s there now so now what needs to be done is try and protect against any worsening of it or a worsening of general hearing loss.
No offence but we’re not going to spray water all over our living room, it’s impractical. Fine for outside in the yard though and this actually is exactly what we do. The real problem is when she is in close quarters to us, such as in the tv room.
At normal pitch a regular cell phone, regular tv, regular doorbell (which we don’t have), regular telephone and regular radio are not at the same decibel level as a barking Yorkie, believe me.

When it is a better description to call it a whine…

That’s what my ears tell me, anyway
